Hey, wait a minute. I know that guy. He’s a magazine publisher and he’s switched to the Mac. He’s no Ellen Feiss, but he’s one of the best pitch men I know, David Carey, publisher of the New Yorker. (Here’s how the ad came about. As a recipient of a David Carey note, I can attest to his “natural” gift of sending them naturally.

But, come to think of it, David also is a professional switcher.

Magazine folks appearing on a TV spot (or in a print one for that matter) seems a little disjointed to me, but it isn’t unprecedented. I recall (or am I’m making this up) Ellen Levin being on some type of cosmetics advertisement several years ago.

flag

Hammock Publishing’s flag was waving against a crystal-clear blue sky yesterday in West Allis, Wisconsin. It is always a pleasure visiting a printing plant where the pride shows. And it doesn’t hurt if they serve tenderloin for lunch, either. And in August, Wisconsin is a wonderful place to be.

However, my praise of things in Wisconsin does not extend to a certain football team that will be visited by the Tennessee Titans tomorrow.

MRI analysis reveals the shocking truth: Magazines readership is UP!

Here is the press release from the MPA regarding the study:

NEW MRI REPORT ANALYSIS SHOWS
MAGAZINE READERSHIP INCREASED

Up More than 5% Overall with Women Outpacing Men

NEW YORK, NY (August 26, 2002) — Magazine readership increased 5.3% among adults since 1998, outpacing the 4.4% growth in the adult population during the same period, despite the economic downturn and the continued growth of the Internet and other media alternatives. This announcement was made by Ellen Oppenheim, EVP/Chief Marketing Officer, Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) and Kathi L. Love, CEO and President of Mediamark Research Inc. (MRI).

Readership of the 171 magazines common to each of the past five MRI spring studies was examined. Along with the boost in the adult category, there were gains in overall female (6.1%) and male (4.3%) readership. This growth trend held true for the older (35+) age segment, while remaining virtually unchanged for the younger group (18-34).

Who cares?

A review of the new magazine, Simmons Tongue.

Quote:

Simmons Tongue is a busty men’s magazine that wants to help define a lifestyle for would-be Gatsbys who still fondly recall that time they had to have their stomach pumped at an AC/DC show.

This article raises a question I’ve wondered about for years: Do reporters know anyone other than, “University of Mississippi journalism professor Samir Husni” to call for a quote about a new magazine?

Pardon me, this paragraph is included so that a reporter doing a google search in the future regarding a new magazine can type in “new magazine” and “Samir Husni” and perhaps get this page. To whom I would like to inform, “Samir Husni is over quoted.”
